Welcome to Coffee and Rakija
Stories from an Englishman in the Balkans
Zdravo! I’m an Englishman who has spent the past 25 years living in the heart of Bosnia and Herzegovina. What started as a curiosity about the Balkans has turned into a lifelong love affair with this fascinating, complex, and often misunderstood region.
Here on Coffee and Rakija, I share my experiences, observations, and the little joys of everyday life in Bosnia. Think of it as a conversation over a strong Bosnian coffee or a glass of homemade rakija, where I take you behind the tourist brochures and into the real essence of the Balkans.
I write about the people I meet, the places I explore, and the cultural quirks that make life here so unique. Whether it’s the rhythm of village life, the taste of freshly grilled ćevapi, or the deep-rooted superstitions that still shape daily routines, every post is an invitation to see Bosnia through my eyes.
Alongside written reflections, you’ll find audio podcasts where I bring you sounds, stories, and interviews from across the region. I also create videos that give a visual glimpse into the landscapes, traditions, and everyday moments that define life here.
Who’s This For?
If you’re someone who loves discovering new cultures, enjoys slow storytelling, or simply wants to see a different side of the Balkans, this space is for you. My readers range from expats and travellers to curious minds who appreciate the richness of life beyond the mainstream.
So, pour yourself a coffee (or something stronger) and join me on this journey.
